Hardwired Smoke Detectors

Hardwired Smoke Detectors: If at all possible you should have all your smoke/co2 detectors hardwired. This means that not only are they hooked up to 120 volts but are also interconnected. This means that if one  is activated they are all activated. This is crucial for safety.

Mandatory in Ontario in an upper and lower unit duplex or rental property. They also come with battery backup. In a retrofit this usually requires access into ceilings, pipe chases and attic spaces.  For rental properties there are tamper proof devices available if required. A certified electrical contractor can advise and install an appropriate system.
